ATLANTA - Nov. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Sociercise announced today that there will be a virtual running race on the Sociercise platform beginning on Wednesday November 13th, 2013.  Funds raised during this event will support the Typhoon Hiyan relief efforts in the Philippines by the International Rescue Committee (http://www.rescue.org/).  The IRC already has a team on the ground in the Philippines and is assessing water, hygiene, and sanitation needs for survivors.

Virtual running races are a new way for individuals to use their running workouts to raise money for worthy causes.  The platform consists of an iPhone app that allows participants to track their running during the multiple days of the racing period and the Sociercise website that provides each participant with a personal fundraising page to collect pledges for each mile that they complete during the event.   Donors can also pledge a minimum amount and maximum amount using the Sociercise Fun and Fair Pledge Process.  This platform allows participants to run or walk in any location, at any time, and as often as they want during the racing period.

Free registration for the Support the Philippines Relief Effort (http://bit.ly/1cR9UNC) event is now open.  As a participant logs miles using the Sociercise Real Time Running Races app they can see how much money they raise with each step in real time.  Participants can also see where they rank against others in distance completed, funds raised, and calories burned through the Sociercise Website.

"The devastation in the Philippines as a result of Typhoon Hiyan is almost incomprehensible.  Such a powerful storm will have a lasting impact on the region.  We hope that this virtual running race can provide some relief for the victims of this natural disaster." Said Bobby Valentine a co-founder of Sociercise, LLC.   "We chose the International Rescue Committee to be the beneficiary of this event because of their four star status with Charity Navigator, their BBB rating, and their A+ rating with the American Institute of Philanthropy."
