Eccentric Spirit Embodies LYGO DC’s Growing Local and Regional Recognition

WASHINGTON - Nov. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- Washington, D.C. – When On Tap Magazine comes out to a LYGO DC (http://lygodc.com/) show and declares there to be a charming “high-energy weirdness” about the performers, it’s hard to think that things aren’t going according to plan. That is what comedy is about after all — a flare for the dramatic and an intonation that engages the audience to make it feel like a shared experience. (“That’s happened to me too!”).

Enjoy the holidays! We’ll be back Jan. 4!

In a piece (http://www.ontaponline.com/2013/11/01/dc%E2%80%99s-comedy-collective-community-talent-and-laughs/) for On Tap Magazine’s November issue, writer Lauren Wright outlines how LYGO DC’s quirky beginning as a brunch comedy show quickly developed into a cornerstone of the growing DC stand-up comedy scene that is “helping to build a community and grow talent in a city that has needed a ‘middle ground’ for burgeoning comedians.”

Comedians like Chelsea Shorte (http://lygodc.com/performers/chelsea-shorte/) and Tyler Richardson (http://lygodc.com/performers/tyler-richardson/), who were featured in the piece, are staunch examples of the types of comedians that embody the LYGO DC spirit — give love to get love. Shorte made her headlining debut with LYGO DC while Richardson continues to be one of the mainstays of the local scene, offering the mentorship of a close friend who's been there before. Tyler can be seen at various open mics and shows in the area, often two or three times nightly.

The growing recognition of LYGO DC inside the District has allowed it to obtain regional acknowledgement and attraction from touring comedians from around the country, especially the bright lights of New York City. On Thursday, December 5, Jared Logan (http://jaredlogan.com/), originally from West Virginia via New York, will headline ODB Live! at 6:30 p.m. and Bier Baron at 8:30 p.m.

This year, Logan will perform his own half hour special on Comedy Central (http://www.comedycentral.com/comedians/jared-logan). He has also been seen weekly as a cast member on VH1’s Best Week Ever. He has appeared on John Oliver’s New York Stand-up Show and TJ Miller’s Mash-up. He was a delegate for Comedy Central's Indecision 2012 and works as a warm-up comedian for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report.

In other LYGO DC news, Stand Up at Bier Baron, which currently runs on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month and is co-produced with Underground Comedy, will expand to weekly starting in January. Plus, Wednesdays at Codmother will become Wednesdays at Bier Baron. This show will re-launch on January 15, with an 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. show time.

The full calendar of shows is posted on the LYGO DC website. Here are some highlights for December:
