Inovia Health, a dental marketing and management firm based out of Orlando, FL with satellite offices in Michigan and Toronto is proud to announce their adoption of green policies. CEO Gus Kaloti applauds the work of his staff, who brought the issue to his attention.

Just what did the staff do? “They identified a list of 10 potential ways they could reduce office energy consumption and minimize our carbon footprint. I had no idea how much small changes could add up,” notes Kaloti. The staff install motion control light switches, instituted a recycling program, cut down on printing and paper, and even made a pact to cut down on disposable waste during lunch time.

“We still were guilty of using a lot of paper” recounts Administrative Assistant Sarah Gaete. “We learned in our research that by using Post Consumer Waste products, you’d save 45% of the energy required in the paper’s creation. That’s pretty cool.”

“I used to edit creative materials from paper documents. That generated so much needless waste. I bring in a digital tablet now and use that instead. It was hard to get used to at first, but I’ve probably spared half a ream of paper myself this much.”

What other easy ways did the staff find to make the Inovia Health home office more “green?”

“I think the most exciting thing we did was recycle our old refrigerator and get a smaller, Energy Star appliance. It’s large enough to serve our needs, but is uses way less energy. Old fridges often have leaks and are a huge energy suck. I researched the best product for our office, and sent team member Mike to procure it. I’d say that our new office refrigerator has become the symbol of a greener Inovia Health.” says IT Director, Matt Keller.

How did the changes impact the company as a whole?

“The energy savings reflected our first month.” say Kaloti. “As a dental consulting firm, Inovia counsels clients on how to make their practices more profitable. We always recommend trimming overhead. By adopting green policies you’ll notice a savings in energy costs in addition to helping protect our natural resources.”

Why did Inovia take this step now? “We’ve always been focused on more innovative and effective ways to streamline the business of dental. The best way to lead is by example. Part of what we’re trying to do here is build a better world.”

Inovia Health joins many businesses that have developed written sustainabilty policies in the last year. Greening efforts, whether large or small, are simple to implement in your business.

Say Sarah: “I recommend having key staff have a brainstorming session about the office’s goals. Be realistic about what you can and can’t do. We had the budget for a new appliance, but not to explore alternative energy options. You have to do it in pieces, seeing what makes sense for your business.”
