Exclusive Interview with Bollywood Director Madhur Bhandarkar on The Ravi Report

Bhandarkar, one of India’s most sought after filmmakers is known for taking reality based subject matters and fictionalizing them with clever realistic undertones complete with dramatic scenarios while capturing the attention of audiences and critics from around the world.

Born and raised in Mumbai, the home of Bollywood, the acclaimed director faced many struggles, trials and tribulations while trying to make it in the world of Indian films. Without having the backing of movie star parents or influential relatives, Bhandarkar managed to capture the Indian film industry and world-wide audiences single-handedly by sheer determination, ambition and with a great deal of talent.

"70 percent of my films are realism and 30 percent are fiction," the director tells The Ravi Report.


Bhandarkar’s 2001 film Chandani Bar, won the National Award for Best Film, India’s honest honor given to an Indian citizen. His other film Traffic Signal (2007), depicting the lives of people in Mumbai trying to make a living by a traffic signal, won him the Best Director Award and his other films Fashion, Jail and Page 3, all won National Awards in different categories giving Bhandarkar the status of the most sought after director, writer and producer in Bollywood today.
