Lake Shore Toyota is Supporting Toys for Tots This Year

BURNS HARBOR, Ind. - Nov. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Lake Shore Toyota is a Burns Harbor car dealership specializing in new Toyota models. The dealership also enjoys giving back to the community. This year, the dealership is having a toy drive for the non-profit organization Toys for Tots. Toys for Tots distributes new toys to children during the holiday season to children whose parents cannot afford to give them anything.

The toy drive at Lake Shore Toyota is currently ongoing until December 1, 2013. Lake Shore Toyota and Toys for Tots request that anyone interested in participating in the drive to bring new toys still in the packaging that have not been wrapped.

In return for the donation, Lake Shore Toyota is offering contributors a coupon for the Lake Shore Toyota service department. The dealership service team can provide a variety of services to any make and model, not just Toyota cars.

During their existence, Toys for Tots has been able to collect and give out more than 500,000,000 toys to children around the United States. The organization was founded by William Hendricks in Los Angeles back in 1947 when his wife wanted to give a disadvantaged child a toy for the holidays—it was a Raggedy Ann doll—but found no such organization around.

Hendricks reached out to Lieutenant Colonel John Hampton and other area Marine reserves to start a toy drive. As Hendricks was a public relations director for Warner Brothers, they were able to collect toys at Los Angeles Warner Brothers movie theaters and reach out to celebrities to help promote the cause. The first year the group raised 5000 toys for local children. Their success led them to take the campaign nationally the next year in 1948.

All toys can be dropped at Lake Shore Toyota. The dealership is located at 244 Melton Road in Burns Harbor, Indiana and open Monday through Saturday each week.
