All Treats, No ‘Tricks’ in Chesterfield

Halloween is viewed by many in the UK as an over Americanised holiday

CHESTERFIELD, U.K. - Nov. 6, 2013 - PRLog -- Created with one simple aim, to entice people into spending money on things they don’t need and probably won’t use again! But what do the local people of Chesterfield think to that?

Well, if this weekend’s celebrations are anything to go by, they think the total opposite!

A recent poll conducted on local radio station Peak FM 107 showed that 31% of people in Chesterfield didn’t like children Trick or Treating but the overwhelming 69% of respondents really relish in the trick or treating delights that our small town has to offer.

So, those that aren’t so keen on the ‘frighten-ly fun’ time of year, how does Halloween contribute to Chesterfield’s economic growth?

This year UK shoppers have been reported to have spent £300 million on preparation for Halloween and some of this massive spend will be reflected in chesterfields rapidly expanding economy.

Local businessman Jason Hill, owner of Isis Noir in Chesterfield’s Theatre District on Corporation Street said “Halloween is one of our favorite and biggest weekends of the year, because most people like the idea of dressing up and going out to party and it’s not something you can do every weekend.”

He, along with many other venue owners in the town centre were pleased with the big turn out this year, some believe this was due to the fact that Halloween is also falls on a Thursday which is also student night in Chesterfield, which means cheap drinks and lots of scary costumes, all in one of the safest areas of Britain.

Recent information from Chesterfield Police shows that there wasn’t any additional major crimes committed on Halloween this year, no alcohol related incidents that made it into the local press. Overall this shows that people don’t need to speculate about Halloween – Despite the town seeing the largest number of party- goers for this time of year, it did not affect the crime rate, instead it boo-sted the local economy for all the f-right reasons this year!
