CHICAGO - Nov. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- (Chicago, Il)- World Bicycle Relief announced the start of its year-end campaign for donations, its annual appeal for funds that will provide life-changing transportation to people where the need is the greatest, notably in rural Africa. Donations received now through December 31, 2013, will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $1.2 million, with the potential of delivering thousands of bikes to worthy recipients when this fundraising goal of $2.4 million is met. The 2013 campaign, Mobilize Me And I’ll Change My World, highlights how The Power of Bicycles® can dramatically change lives and showcases a student, health care worker and entrepreneur who use the bike to accomplish life-changing activities. Donations received during the campaign will mobilize thousands of students, health care workers and entrepreneurs who will be able to finish school, treat sick patients, build their businesses, feed their families and follow their dreams.

Since its inception in 2005, World Bicycle Relief has put over 161,000 bicycles into the hands of people living in developing countries, focused mainly on rural African communities lacking transportation infrastructure. The organization's Buffalo Bikes are specially-designed, high quality, rugged bikes that are assembled locally. A bike can quintuple a person’s carrying capacity and quadruple the distance one can travel in an hour. To someone living in rural Africa, a bicycle can provide access to an education, health care and to markets. The power of mobility created by a single Buffalo Bike is said to have a positive impact on the lives of five people in a given community. Given this statistic, if World Bicycle Relief reaches its goal of raising $2.4 million bringing nearly 18,000 bikes to recipients, over 90,000 people will realize a positive impact.

F.K. Day, the Co-Founder of World Bicycle Relief:

“The story about Ethel, a 15-year old student from Kufue District in Zambia, is one that stands out to me when I think about the power of mobility that your support provides and is at the heart of World Bicycle Relief’s mission to transform lives and communities through bicycles.

Ethel told us, “If you mobilize me, I will mobilize others.” Ethel, who wants to be a nurse, could barely make it to school before receiving her Buffalo Bicycle. Waking up anxious, getting her chores done, and walking miles to school each morning was a daily struggle. Now, with the help of supporters like you, Ethel arrives at school on time, excels in her studies and dreams big. She’s thinking not only about her own future, but how to empower and care for others in her community. By mobilizing girls like Ethel, we are helping her to mobilize others and change her world.”

Year-end gifts to World Bicycle Relief will mobilize thousands of students, health care workers and entrepreneurs to turn their aspirations into achievements.
