DALLAS - Nov. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- DALLAS, TX - November 2, 2013 — Do you overcome every possible objection even before one comes up when talking with your daughter? Are you hypercritical? Does your perspective prevail no matter what? "The power of life and death is in the tongue holds true with all relationships; however, with the mother daughter relationship has extended consequences," says psychologist  Dr. Trevicia Williams. A new study says that mothers who are  overbearing with their daughters are sabotaging the development of their social skills, increasing the likeliness that they will form negative eating habits, and, in general ensuring that they will have low self esteem. Dr. Williams (http://www.treviciawilliams.com) is responding to the study with a series of seminars that helps moms and daughters  use the power of their tongues in healthy ways at 8:00 am, Friday, November 22nd at Young Women's Leadership Academy at Arnold Middle School (Grand Prairie ISD) located at 1204 E. Marshall Drive Grand Prairie, TX  75051.

"According to research from the University of Georgia in the US, overbearing moms can produce women with poor social skills as well as disordered eating attitudes and that more than overall family dynamics, it’s the mother-daughter relationship that determines a girl’s personal development when it comes to social competence."

"There are times when moms have to be parents and give good sound advice when it comes to their teen's safety and personal interests. However, to have well-adjusted daughters, it's important for moms to understand how harmful unsolicited advice and criticism can be during the adolescent years," says Dr. Williams. Mothers and their teen daughters (http://www.realbeautyinsideout.com) are expected to attend this fun, interactive, and, educational breakfast and seminar during which moms and teen girls will connect, build, bond and grow while learning valuable effective communication skills. "Mothers are being proactive not reactive regarding their relationship with their daughters.  By participating in this seminar, they will learn how to have healthy and effective conversations with their daughters and how to use teachable moments during everyday events such as the recent story about modestly dressed Selena Gomez's performance at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as she told the audience of mostly tweens and teens accompanied by their parents that they were beautiful just the way they were and that what she thought was sexy is "Class,"  says Dr. Trevicia Williams.

Moms who attended Selena Gomez' concert with their daughters have much different teachable moments to use than those who watched Miley Cyrus' performance at MTV VMA's, says Dr. Trevicia Williams. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music-arts/selen...
