NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - Nov. 5, 2013 - PRLog -- It’s a known fact that texting while driving (drexting) kills.  For parents of teen drivers, finding a productive way to help their teens avoid this behavior has been tough until now. Cinqpoint’s new text-STAR driver accountability program provides parents a way to hold their teens accountable by knowing if their teen driver has been texting while driving and at what degree. It's responsibility through accountability. The text-STAR system generates a text-STAR Report (Safe Texting Accountability Report) that scores and rates activity of texts and calls while driving.  Why is this text-STAR system so important to parents?

First it allows parents the opportunity to help avoid a tragedy, like the loss of life, via proactive behavior correction.  Additionally, quite often teens drive a car that is owned, registered, and insured by one or both parents.  The cell phone they use is also typically on the parent’s cell phone plan. The liability this creates for the parents is significant should an accident occur. Laws are in place in many states that now to hold driver’s liable and accountable for accidents caused by texting or other cell phone use while driving. Parents who have their teen drivers download the text-STAR app on their Android phone gain access to text-STAR Reports which identifies high risk behavior propensity associated with cell phone use that can be corrected through accountability before it gets to the point of a tragic loss of life, financial loss, or both.

Parents no longer have to wonder, but can know, how well their teen is managing their Smartphone via the text-STAR Report with their individual score and data provided in the report. Text-STAR does not handcuff the phone by hindering phone functionality as that can add other liabilities. Instead, it keeps drivers connected without distractions by notifying those trying to reach the driver of the drivers’ status, whether it’s an incoming text message or a call.  The app also allows the user to personalize the reply as desired along with the ability to schedule a reply during a specific time period. This type of functionality makes text-STAR a highly desired app and service.  Cinqpoint is also working on including "other app usage" (OAU) in the score and report as an additional accountability factor since distracted driving goes beyond text messaging and calls.

Cinqpoint President and CEO Edwin Buitrago states, “We at Cinqpoint take pride in leading the effort to curb distracted driving. Parents of teens using text-STAR will be afforded the comfort of knowing they have the tools to guide their teen drivers into a safer driving environment.” Cinqpoint officials conclude that text-STAR and its accountability feature is an important tool to help combat distracted driving and save lives by promoting a culture of change in attitude and behavior.

The text-STAR mobile app is amazingly still free but that's soon to change and is available for Android users on Google Play.
