Nov. 1, 2013 - PRLog -- Oxford, UK - Chris Imafidon, widely regarded as father of Britain's brainiest family by the leading intellectuals and scientists, has revealed the strategies for teaching girls to love science and ace any exams.

Dr Chris Imafidon said it is 'diabolical' to assume "that science has an inherent gender bias". He made this remark during the Special "STEMettes" science programme at Christ Church College in the University of Oxford. During the Computer hackathon which was co-sponsored by BIPB, O2 and STEMettes, he said that the standard black and white science textbook should be replaced with interactive apps on mobile devices. "The pillars for enjoying science are curiosity experimentation, exploration and discovery" he added.

According to Dr Imafidon, who is a board Member of theExcellenceinEducation.org.uk Programme, "It is estimated that we lose over £9 billion a year every time a young person decides not to do Maths, this event is a great way to get girls interested in Science and Mathematics because everyone can see its a game. This unique methodology provides the key to unlocking the potential of the next generation whilst saving this economy billions!"

After just two days, most girls that participated on the Hackathon event wrote computer programs that could compete with industry standard data visualization. The next event by the STEMettes is on Saturday, 23 November 2013 in London. For details of the video of Dr Chris Imafidon's presentation visit (www.imafidons.com).

BIPB, the global business intelligence consultancy, was one of the sponsors of the Oxford Hack, where girls created an interactive data visualisation using industry tools including Qlikview – BIPB’s business intelligence tool. Also present was Maria Sanchez - Digital marketing manager at O2

Charles Radclyffe, CEO at BIPB said:

BIPB is committed to addressing a number of key issues facing the IT industry today, and that includes the lack of female representatives within the industry, since women currently account for just one in every five IT professionals. We’ve been very inspired by the work that the Stemettes have been doing to correct this imbalance, and therefore decided to join forces for the Oxford hackathon in order to help increase the likelihood of females choosing IT as a lifelong career.

We’re getting our whole business behind this initiative - as well as providing our Qlikview tool for attendees to use, we’re also bringing Hannah Curtis from our US team to help facilitate the weekend’s activities."

Chris Imafidon concluded that

"Mathematics is the core of Science and logic, so Mathematical concepts must be introduced to every student as early as possible and the teaching of it should be at a pace dictated by the progress of the student and not chronological age or the national curriculum. Mathematics is fundamentally a game. If students understand the key concepts in Maths, the biggest obstacle to the understanding of science will disappear. There is nothing gender specific about enjoying science. So nobody should ever assume that boys are for science and girls for art subjects. There is no evidence to support such myths. If we relate science to what want girls love, the will enjoy the subject. They need to know that cosmetics are chemical compounds, or mixtures. They must recognize that if they can make a sandwich, they can write computer programs. If they can cook, they are conducting a chemical reaction mediated by heat. If they are gardening, that is pure Biology. If they ride a bicycle, or tricycle they are resolving forces, and that is mechanics" He concluded.

Notes for Editors:

Stemettes was set up to inspire the next generation of females into roles related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) via a series of panel events, hackathons, exhibitions, and mentoring schemes.
