Point Breeze school response team kicks off 2013 school year with a community block party

Oct. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Philadelphia, October 23, 2012:  Neighbors Investing in Childs Elementary (NICE) will be holding a block party on the 1500 block of Wharton Street on November 2, 2013 from 1-4pm to kick-off the 2013 school year.  The goal is to bring the community together for a day of unity and at the same time introduce efforts being made by the group.  There will be food, games and prizes and elected officials Kenyatta Johnson and Jordan Harris are scheduled to be at the event.

All parents, children, teachers and community members are invited to join.

NICE is a response team to help meet the needs of G. W. Childs Elementary School, made up of community members who are dedicated to creating a safe, creative learning environment at our local public elementary school.  The mission is to complement and support the efforts already being put forth by school administration, staff and parents by executing service projects, raising funds, recruiting volunteers and providing community insight that will positively affect the student body and the community at large.  The vision is that investing in a neighborhood school will ultimately build community by focusing energy around a common goal: an excellent education for ALL children in the catchment area.  At the heart of any vibrant neighborhood is a thriving school.

NICE has previously renovated the G.W. Childs library, assisted with an Art Show to raise funds for the Art program and helped organize volunteers to assist the school in reviving their “One Love” garden.
