GSky Plant Systems, Inc. Unveils a Soaring Three-Story High Green Wall at 888 Brannan

A stunning 1226 sq. ft. GSky Green Wall brings historic building, 888 Brannan to life.

SAN FRANCISCO - Oct. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- GSky Plant Systems, Inc., a leading provider of vertical Green Walls in North America and the Middle East has installed a beautiful 1226 sq. ft. Versa Wall (http://gsky.com/green-walls/versa/) in the atrium of a five-story historic building, 888 Brannan. Located below a massive skylight, the verdant GSky Green Wall is an unprecedented living artwork that breathes life into the building.

Formerly a large-scale industrial warehouse, 870 Brannan was first constructed in 1917 and later added a four-story extension in 1920 along Brannan Street, known as 850 Brannan. The two buildings have been recently converted and revived as 888 Brannan, a premier commercial office space. Gensler, the renowned architecture firm is behind the redesign and restoration of this unique, existing historic building.

The firm contacted GSky to help liven up the atrium by adding fresh greenery and vibrant colors to the space. An organic natural component was requested to soften the strong elements of concrete, designed window frames and wood flooring. While the classic charm of the building remains, it is complimented by a modern twist of a lush, three-story tall GSky Green Wall (http://gsky.com/projects/888-brannan-street-san-francisco...) in the heart of the building.

Debbie Kotalic, GSky’s Director of Horticultural Design is the plant artist that designed the masterpiece, using a unique palette of 7042 four-inch potted plants with diverse species such as: Neon Pothos, Brazillian Philodendron, Philodendron Cordatum, White Butterfly Nephthytis, and Dwarf Schefflera.

The vertical Green Wall has an interesting geometric layout with flowing curvilinear lines. “The design inspiration came from the famous San Francisco hills that make up the city’s urban landscape; it’s an iconic feature that truly captures the spirit of San Francisco,” Kotalic said. “I’m very proud of how the living wall turned out—I feel as though we came up with a well-balanced union of nature, art and history.”

Beyond the Green Wall’s visual impact, it provides a peaceful environment where people can relax, recharge and reconnect with nature. The plants from the Green Wall also help filter the air by removing carbon dioxide and capturing dust. The process of photosynthesis consumes CO2 and releases O2, which improves the quality of air (http://gsky.com/green-walls/benefits/) and provides more energy-rich oxygen.

“As we spend less time outdoors, we become more disconnected from the natural world that is essential for our emotional, physical, and mental well-being. A Green Wall is a great example of bringing nature back into our lives, as well as life and harmony to human-made structures,” said Chad Sichello, President, GSky Plant Systems, Inc.

GSky’s Versa Wall System is user-friendly and easy to install and maintain for any interior Green Wall. It employs four-inch industry standard pots that can be placed directly into the Versa Wall Tray to ensure instant plant coverage, offering flexible installation options and a variety of plant selections. The Versa Wall is eco-friendly, customizable, durable and economical. Additionally, it has a recirculating irrigation system that is 100% water efficient and self-contained.
