Follow on Google News | New Book Features Paintings and Stories from Summers in MaineShanti Arts Publishing in Brunswick, Maine, announces the release of Summer Stories, with paintings by Maine artist Leslie Anderson and a dozen short stories by Maine writers.
By: Shanti Arts Publishing Anderson’s paintings, including Hauling Buoys, Fair Night, Clammer, Hay Day, and Last Night at the Lake, capture the people and events characteristic of summers in Maine. The accompanying stories by ten Maine writers animate and honor the artist’s work and deliver the unique perspective of those who have experienced the magic of summertime in Maine. There is tenderness and warmth here, but the stories also contain danger and torment and, throughout, the essential qualities that make Maine and its people what they are – resourceful, determined, strong, and independent. Authors are Mary Lou Bagley, Nancy L. Brown, Meredith Nash Fossel, Claire Guyton, Kathryn Hall, David Karraker, Catherine J. S. Lee, Laura Levenson, John B. Nichols, Jr., and Anna Noyes. Anderson lives in Portland, Maine, but she and her husband spend summers on a ten-acre farm in Sedgwick on the Blue Hill Peninsula of Maine. There the artist paints and sells art from her studio-gallery. If you know Maine, you may find yourself in one of these paintings or stories; if you’ve never been to Maine, this book will spark your imagination and make you want to visit Maine to craft your own summer story.
