By: Mayerson Marketing & PR “Between the Tides” showcases meditative, relief-based abstractions that explore structure, connection, color and scale. Lasch Krevitt’s paintings bridge the concerns of sculpture and painting, using encaustic paint to saturate and embed elements created from new and repurposed textiles. In some of the works these elements are used structurally beneath the surface; in others, elements chosen for their color are uncovered and exposed. The concept for “Between the Tides” began as Lasch Krevitt stood on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean inspired by a thin leading edge of the sea flowing slowly back onto shore, seemingly unaware it had the power of an entire ocean behind it. “While creating the works in this show, I have come to understand this process of waves continually moving forward and leaving behind a record of their passing as a metaphor for the accumulation of experience that is my life” said Lasch Krevitt. Lasch Krevitt received her BFA from The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been shown nationally and abroad and can be seen in Authentic Visual Voices: Contemporary Paper & Encaustic by Catherine Nash. Lasch Krevitt, a Thousand Oaks resident, currently maintains a studio in Thousand Oaks and teaches in Ventura County, Calif. She was a presenter this year for the 7th International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, where she won the Juror’s Award. Lasch Krevitt will present and teach at the 8th International Encaustic Conference in 2014 and will also soon be presenting demos for R & F Handmade Encaustic Paints. “Between the Tides” runs Nov. 1 through Nov. 30 at Blackboard Gallery of Studio Channel Islands Art Center in Camarillo.
