Homeless Kids Enjoy Halloween Fun Thanks to Local Church

Community Christian Church Montgomery hosted a night of Halloween fun for homeless kids currently residing at Hesed House in Aurora, Illinois.

MONTGOMERY, Ill. - Oct. 30, 2013 - PRLog -- On Friday, October 25, 45 kids who reside at Hesed House enjoyed a festive Halloween celebration courtesy of Community Christian Church Montgomery.  The second annual event was considered a smashing success by all who attended.

Attenders of Community Christian Church’s Montgomery and Naperville Yellow Box locations donated costumes, candy, decorations and money to bring the Halloween Party to life.  Businesses, including Chick-fil-A, donated food for the party.

“It’s beautiful to see a community come together to bring happiness to children whose lives are otherwise not so bright,” remarked Carter Moss, Pastor of Community Christian Church Montgomery.  “Seeing the kids’ beaming smiles was priceless.  They really enjoyed just being kids and having fun.  No stress, just happiness.”

The event began with the kids choosing their own costumes from the donated lot.  “The kids were thrilled to learn that they got to keep the costumes they chose!” Moss added.  The costumed kids went on parade.  A prayer and a home-cooked meal followed, the dinner having been prepared by COMMUNITY attender and event coordinator Heather Edwards.  Edwards, Moss and a team of volunteers served dinner to the kids and their parents.  After devouring “tons of cool desserts,” the kids enjoyed indoor and outdoor games, all of which included opportunities for the kids to collect candy treats from the volunteers.

“The parents - mostly moms - were super thankful, and the kids all loved it! And our volunteers were very impacted, too.  Serving was not only a blessing to those we served; it was a blessing to us, too, to be able to come alongside our neighbors and bring some light into their lives.  We’re grateful to be able to partner with Hesed House in this way.”
