LITCHFIELD, Conn. - Oct. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- In memory of its past President, Ellen R. Keeney, The Greater Litchfield Preservation Trust presents, with the Oliver Wolcott Library, Rachael Carley’s lecture The Color of Change.

In this enlightening discussion, historian and author Rachel Carley will debunk the myth that New England’s puritanically minded settlers were largely devoid of color.  Drawing from her recent research on the history of Litchfield architecture, clothing, and furnishings inherited from generations past, Rachel Carley will share recent discoveries - and some unsolved questions - about the ways in which local residents painted and decorated their buildings.

Rachel Carley is an architectural historian, historic preservation consultant and exhibition curator.  She is the author of seven books that explore how taste, technology, economics and politics have shaped communities.  Her most recent book, Litchfield: The Making of a New England Town is the recipient of numerous honors including the 2012 Historic New England Book Prize and a 2013 Award of Merit from the Connecticut League of History Organization.

The Greater Preservation Trust was established in 1975 by a group of generous residents who recognized that preservation is an active word.  Lead by Mr. and Mrs. Hans Seherr-Thoss, the trust was established to preserve and protect the architectural, cultural and environmental history of the area- through acquisition, grants, and education.  Find them at www.litchfieldpreservation-ct.org.

A wine and cheese reception will follow the event.  All Oliver Wolcott Library events are free and open to the public.  Space is limited.  Registration is required and can be done by calling 860-567-8030 or logging onto www.owlibrary.org and clicking on Programs/Adult Programs.
