Follow on Google News | MapRoute phone app navigates public footpathsKinatomic Technology releases the first phone app that automatically navigates the complete public footpath network.
Maproute is an Android phone app for walkers, cyclists and anyone pursuing outdoor activities. This is the first time public network of footpaths, bridleways and byways has been used to calculate of the fastest route between two locations. Just specify your destination and the phone shows the exact route. After the app is installed, all required data is stored offline on the phone and an Internet connection is not needed. Tim Sheerman-Chase, owner of Kinatomic Technology, commented: “There is a vast quantity of map data floating around but this is the first time it has been packaged in an easy to use phone app. I love exploring unfamiliar areas and I hope MapRoute encourages people to go for more spontaneous walks and bike rides.” Maproute is ideal for hill walkers because land height contours are shown on the map. Car and bicycle navigation is also supported. The app is currently available for Herefordshire, Hampshire and Sussex. Surrey, Oxfordshire and other counties will be progressively added to MapRoute in the near future. The availability of map areas is partly driven by the local authority making the necessary data available. Point of interest searching enables nearby pubs, tourist attractions, toilets and shops to be located while on route. Further information is available on the Kinatomic Technology website. The app is available for purchase through Google Play. East and West Sussex maps are on special offer until 25th November. http://www.kinatomic.com/ End
