Capital Region Stonewall Democrats Re-endorses Dan Miller, City Controller, in the Nov. 5th Harri

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Oct. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- This action does not negate the endorsement of Eric Papenfuse, Democratic nominee for Mayor, who was endorsed by the Stonewall Democrats in June, 2013, following the results of the primary election.

In April, 2013, the Executive Board recommended endorsement of either Eric Papenfuse or Dan Miller for Mayor, City of Harrisburg. Both candidates completed endorsement surveys and were interviewed regarding their positions on LGBT equality.

CRSD Executive Board recognizes the unique circumstances to the Mayoral race where Democrat Dan Miller reversed his decision in August, 2013 and announced his bid to re-enter the race on the Republican ballot. The organizational bylaws allow the Executive Board to re-endorse a candidate for the general election who was endorsed in the primary election.

Background

April 8, 2013 - CRSD Executive Board recommended endorsement of either Eric Papenfuse or Dan Miller for Mayor, City of Harrisburg. Eric Papenfuse requested that CRSD endorse both candidates.  Active members voted to endorse Dan Miller in the May 21^st Primary Election.

June 12, 2013 - CRSD Executive Board recommended endorsement of Eric Papenfuse, Democratic nominee for Mayor, City of Harrisburg, Wanda Williams and Eugenia Smith for Harrisburg City Council. The active (dues current) members voted to endorse these candidates in the November 5th General Election.

August 16, 2013 - Dan Miller reversed his decision and announced his bid for Mayor, City of Harrisburg. (http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2013/08/miller...)

October 21, 2013 - The active members met to review organizational bylaws. Our bylaws (Article VII., Section 2) state: “The Executive Board may choose to re-endorse a candidate for the general election who was endorsed in the primary election.”

Questionnaires submitted by both Eric Papenfuse (http://www.capitalstonewall.org/wp-content/uploads/Papenf...) and Dan Miller (http://www.capitalstonewall.org/wp-content/uploads/Miller...) indicate each met the criteria for a CRSD endorsement.

Therefore, the membership moved to direct the Executive Board to reopen the voting for endorsement in the General Election. A vote was taken among our active members and the end result was to re-endorse Dan Miller.

Despite a re-vote in the Mayoral race, CRSD’s other endorsements (http://www.capitalstonewall.org/?page_id=333) for the City of Harrisburg stand.

October 28, 2013 – Capital Region Stonewall Democrats announce re-endorsement of Dan Miller, City Controller, in the November 5^th Mayoral Race.
