Charles Bronson’s First Wife Pens Intimate Memoir, Receives Most Inspiring Award

LOS ANGELES - Oct. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Awards continue for Harriett Bronson, first wife of late-actor Charles Bronson and author of “Charlie & Me”, a Hollywood memoir. “Charlie & Me” was recently awarded the Most Inspiring Memoir of 2013 by the Book Publicists of Southern California.

“I’m particularly excited about this award. My goal in writing this book was to tell the story of reinvention after divorce and hardship, and I hope the book inspires others, especially women, to find themselves again after a major setback,” Harriett says. In addition to a highly public split from Charles Bronson, Harriett fought breast cancer several years later.

Harriett and Charles Bronson met in a Philadelphia acting school before he was a movie star, while he was still Charles Buchinsky. “Charlie & Me” is first a look at a Hollywood couple on the rise to fame and fortune and then through a high-profile, tabloid-laden divorce. It’s full of raw emotion and tells the human side of their relationship before he was Hollywood royalty.

While film buffs enjoy an inside look at Charlie’s pre-fame years (90% of the photos are never-before-seen), women have identified with Harriett’s post-divorce journey. “I had put my acting career on hold to help Charlie achieve his dreams. After our divorce, my self-esteem was at rock bottom and I was shocked to discover how emotionally dependent I had been on him. I went through a period of dark depressions. It was a very painful process, but I had to find myself.”

“It took me seven years to reclaim ‘the real Harriett Bronson,’” Harriett writes. “I reinvented myself over and over until something stuck.” She became a successful radio personality in Los Angeles and the author of three books.
