Demand up by 2,000% in some of Spain’s hot spots

Spain’s leading holiday rental specialist Spain-holiday.com has identified some of the most in-demand locations for 2014.

Oct. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- According to Claus Sørensen, CEO, Spain-holiday.com: “Demand is up across the board but there is no doubt that rural areas have benefited the most.  We have seen a huge growth in demand over the past year for fincas, masias and farmhouses in Catalonia, Galicia, Tarragona and just inland from Alicante – most of them rural spots, with some areas recording increases in enquiries of up to 2,000% year on year.

Here are a few of the rising stars:

Manresa, Barcelona – 2,000% increase

Less than an hour from Barcelona, the Manresa area has seen an astounding 2,000% increase in enquiries in the past 12 months.  The region has it all – historic towns, a wonderful climate and unspoilt countryside, along with access to the coast’s golden beaches.  Nearby, the mountain of Montserrat stands tall with its unusually-named rock formations such as Cap de Mort (Death’s Head) and La Prenyada (the Pregnant Woman) plus a fascinating working monastery and a museum with an Egyptian mummy and art by Monet, Degas, El Greco and Picasso all easily accessible.   Some of Spain’s most celebrated wineries are on the doorstep - plus a new motorway (C-37) has linked the Penedés wine district with the coastal area of Sitges, so sun-kissed beaches and vibrant Barcelona are less than an hour’s drive away.

Where to stay: Casa Visal (property ref: 13881 (http://www.spain-holiday.com/13881)) is a stylish eight bedroom/eight bathroom country house with views of Montserrat, a private pool and its own cave set amongst hills and forests. Prices in 2014 start from £2,120 per week for the property or £106 pp (20 sharing).  Flights (Barcelona) extra.

Cunit, Tarragona – 2,000% increase

Cunit is the most northerly town on the Costa Dorada and has also seen a 2,000% jump in enquiries since last year.  Located on an inviting golden stretch of beach, the coastline is protected by a series of breakwaters which form small, inviting bays.  The Roman port city of Tarragona is within striking distance and includes remains of the Roman circus where chariot races were once held and the well-preserved Amfiteatre Romà, where gladiators battled.

Where to stay: Masia Lagostea (property ref: 13869 (http://www.spain-holiday.com/13869)) is a 17th century country house where the billiards table is housed in a former grain store and the owners produce their own wine and olive oil. Prices in 2014start from £1,865 per week for the property or £143 pp (13 sharing).  Flights (Barcelona) extra.

Hondon de las Nieves, Alicante – 700% increase

The idyllic village of Hondon de las Nieves is becoming a popular destination for British ex-pats, having seen an increase in enquiries of 700% year on year.  Situated just inland from Alicante, Elche and Torrevieja, visitors benefit from a traditional village atmosphere and great outdoor activities including safari jeeps, horse-riding and paragliding.  The village is also a mere 30 minutes’ drive from the Mediterranean coastline.

Where to stay: Los Viñedos de la Solana (property ref: 3444 (http://www.spain-holiday.com/3444)) is a beautifully-restored former winery surrounded by orchards, located on the south-facing hillside of La Solana, close to Hondon de las Nieves.  With four bedrooms (sleeps 10) this is the perfect family retreat. Prices in 2014 start from £596 per week for the property or £59 pp (10 sharing). Flights (Alicante) extra.

Baiona, Galicia – 466% increase

Situated in Galicia’s Pontevedra province, enquiries for the resort have grown 466% year on year.  With upmarket seafood restaurants, cobbled streets with 16th century houses aplenty, tropical white sand beaches and the swish Royal Yacht Club – a famous stop off point for boats crossing the Atlantic – it’s not hard to see why this is where the Spanish choose to take their holidays.

Where to stay: Snap up this luxury six-bedroom villa (property ref: 15492 (http://www.spain-holiday.com/15492)) with a pool, a garden that stretches down to the sea and complimentary fresh bread delivered to the door each morning.  Prices in 2014start from £2,129 per week for the property or £177 pp (12 sharing).  Flights (Santiago de Compostela) extra.
