JACO, Costa Rica - Oct. 28, 2013 - PRLog -- Dioscorea trifida is a species of flowering plant in the family Dioscoreaceae. It is a species of yam of the genus Dioscorea. It is native throughout the  Caribbean, Central and South America. In  the Carribean this particular species is regarded as the very best of yams.

In Costa Rica it is known as Papas Chino or Yampee. It is a popular dietary staple consumed within Costa Rica and exported in small quantities from Costa Rica.

Naturewalk is a master planned community with home lots located in the hills, 15km from the Pacific Ocean in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica. Owners in Naturewalk can benefit from not only the beautifully located view lots, on which they can have their dream home,  but also from high value agricultural commodities growing on their land.

Lots are planted with a range of crops including teak, vanilla, pineapple, jatropha, macauba, nampi, tiquisque and coffee.

Many of these crops are intercropped providing a range of income streams for lot owners.

The Naturewalk farming company has planted a number of test lots in Permalife farms, Naturewalk 3 with yampee to test its viability for inclusion in the range of crops available to lot owners in Naturewalk.

Tim Alexander, President of Naturewalk Brands commented “we are delighted with the progress of the crops we already offer to owners in Naturewalk and we want to extend that offering further. Although yampee is a labor intensive crop, requiring the installation of trellises, careful management and irrigation,  we feel it offers great returns for our owners and will also offer some very interesting intercrop opportunities. Once we have fully assessed the yield from these current yampee test plantings, we can better judge yampee as a crop to be included in our crop portfolio”.

James Cahill, from Costa Rica Invest which handles all sales and client management for Naturewalk added "we are very pleased that Naturewalk brands and the Naturewalk Farming company are always seeking new crops and opportunities for owners in Naturewalk to ensure that they achieve the best possible returns with a diversified range of crop offerings"

Naturewalk is a fully master planned community of 1200 acres in Turrubares Costa Rica. Owners in Naturewalk own fully serviced lots on which they can have their dream home. Owners further benefit from fully managed crops growing on their land, giving them an income. The masterplan for Naturewalk includes a condo hotel, eco hotel, adventure center, equine center and town center with shopping facilities in addition to homes.
