Declaration Of Conversion Of Esic’s Divisional Office To Sub-regional Office Kozhikode, Kerala

CALICUT, India - Oct. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Kozhikode 25.10.2013 - Shri Kodikunnil Suresh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Government of India declared the conversion of ESIC’s Divisional Office to Sub-Regional Office Kozhikode, Kerala, on 25^th October, 2013 (Friday) at Kozhikode, Kerala.

The event was presided by Shri M. K. Raghavan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha.

On this occasion, Shri Kodikunnil Suresh, Hon’ble Minister of State for Labour & Employment, Govt. of India informed that ESIC in its endeavor to provide better services to its beneficiaries in Kerala State has converted the ESIC’s Divisional Office, Kozhikode to Sub-Regional Office.

Further, he also informed the gathering that ESIC has decided to enhance the wage ceiling limit for coverage of employees under ESI Scheme from the existing Rs. 15,000/- to Rs. 25,000/-.   Shri Suresh stated that ESIC has entered in the field of providing medical education.  ESIC Medical Colleges (MBBS) in Rajajinagar (Karnataka), K.K. Nagar (Tamil Nadu), Gulbarga (Karnataka), Thakurpukur, Kolkata (West Bengal) and Dental College in Rohini (Delhi) have already been started.  20% admission seats for the wards of Insured Persons are reserved in these medical colleges.  He also announced that a state of the art Medical College in Paripally, Kollam is going to be inaugurated soon for academic year 2014-15.

Shri M.K. Raghavan, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha thanked Shri Kodikunnil Suresh for his unprecedented efforts for bringing many ESIC institutions in Kerala State.  He also requested Shri Kodikunnil Suresh to open multispecialty ESIC Hospital in Kozhikode also.

Sub-Regional Office, Kozhikode will have under its jurisdiction 5 Northern Districts of Kerala –Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. It will operate through 12 Branch Offices, including newly sanctioned Branch Office at Vadakara. The Sub-Regional Office, Kozhikode will cater to the needs of 1,15,752  Insured Persons, 6 lakh beneficiaries and 6606 Employers. There will be 29 ESI Dispensaries and 2 Hospitals under its operational jurisdiction.  With the conversion of the Divisional Office at Kozhikode into a Sub-Regional office, a new level of operational ease will come into effect.
