The 2013 Healing Place of Wake County Hoopsfest Is the Biggest One Yet!

Basketball Stars including Chris Corchiani, Mike Warren, and Will Roach Play Their Hearts Out at the North Hills Event

RALEIGH, N.C. - Oct. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Raleigh—HoopsFest, the 3 on 3 basketball tournament held to support The Healing Place was the biggest and best one yet, declared co-chair and former NCSU basketball star Chris Corchiani--and even the weather cooperated.

Special thanks go to the HoopsFest planning committee that included: Chris Corchiani, Will Roach, Tom Bonfield, Shavlik Randolph, Julius Hodge, Chris Budnick, Bat Barber, Marty Isbell, Michael Painter and Michael Goodman.

In addition, we are truly grateful for our wonderful sponsors including Gregory Poole, Gregory Poole Equipment Company, Miles Hart, Attorney at Law; Scott Mauzy, Capital Medalist; Morehead Capital; Pepsi Bottling Ventures; Bruegger’s Bagels at North Hills; Smithfield Chicken and BBQ; Donavon Munford, Capital Community Foundation; Mix 101 and 99.9 The Fan; Restoration Experts of North Carolina.

“Having a number of local celebrities and basketball stars involved really adds sizzle to Hoopsfest,“ said Tom Bonfield, founder of Adaptive Technologies International, Healing Place Board member and one of the driving forces behind the fourth annual HoopsFest event.

“Having fun while supporting a worthy cause,” said Will Roach, former NC State basketball player, “is the best of both worlds. It is amazing that over 70% of the individuals who successfully completed The Healing Place program are still sober, stable, and employed one year post program. It’s great to support such a highly successful program that helps people find their way back from the devastating effects of homelessness and addiction.

“We would like to thank everyone,” said Sue White, Event Coordinator at The Healing Place, “for helping us slam dunk homelessness--and we expect HoopsFest in 2014 to be even bigger and better!”

About The Healing Place

The Healing Place of Wake County is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) recovery and rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol and other drug addictions. The Men’s Facility opened its doors in 2001 and the Women’s Facility began operation in 2006. The Healing Place facilities have provided more than 825,000 beds of shelter and days of recovery to homeless men and women at a cost of less than $35 per client per day. Remarkably, one year after program completion, over 70% of the graduates from the program are still sober, employed, tax paying citizens. The Healing Place of Wake County is built on the principles of the highly successful Healing Place in Louisville KY, which received the 1998 US Department of Health Resources and Service Administration “Models That Work Award” in recognition of the success of the program.
