The 2014 Relay for Life Campaign kicks off at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29at Trinity High School (2600 SW 42nd St, Ocala). This is a time for anyone who’s interested in participating to come learn more about the American Caner Society’s Relay for Life event; those already familiar will be able to sign-up and meet others who are also excited about their chance to make an impact. This informational kick-off event will feature door prizes and complimentary dinner donated by Tastebudz BBQ. During the actual Relay for Life event, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on May 2-3, 2014, participants will take turns walking a designated track during a 12-hour period, signifying the fight against cancer won’t sleep until there’s a cure. This event is a whole lot more than just walking. There’s carnival-like fun for the whole family and a special time during which cancer survivors are honored. Leading up to the event, teams engage in a friendly fundraising competition and are encouraged to get creative when it comes to their efforts. Ocala’s top 2013 team, The Gastro Divas, raised more than $7,000. You can learn more about the Ocala Relay for Life event, which is sponsored by the American Cancer Society, at relayforlife.org/ End
