MIAMI - Oct. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, dedicated to exploring, explaining and conserving the world of tropical plants, is pleased to announce that Brazilian artist Hugo França (pronounced fɾánsa) will debut his designs at Fairchild Garden in conjunction with Art Basel 2013. His works will be on exhibit at the Garden from December 1, 2013 – May 31, 2014. Entry to the exhibit is included in the price of regular admission.

“Hugo França’s design pieces are interactive, inspirational works of art,” said Nannette Zapata, Fairchild’s Chief Operating Officer and Art Curator. “We also share França’s strong commitment to sustainability and nature. He breathes new life into dead trees and wood that are often times hundreds of years old.”

With a studio in Trancoso in Bahia, a state in northeastern Brazil, França uses all natural materials to create functional and sustainable design pieces, often tables and seating. Each piece uses reclaimed wood from felled, burned or dead trees found in Brazil. França lived with the indigenous people in a jungle in Bahia, where he learned unique woodworking techniques.

Instead of masking it, he accentuates the natural quality of his materials. The pieces are organic and show a true appreciation and understanding of nature. Viewers can experience all the details of the wood used, from the texture to the color to the shape.

Given its harmony with the environment, França’s work will fit seamlessly into the natural landscape of Fairchild. Both the artist and the Garden are committed to fostering sustainability and promoting conservational awareness.

The exhibit is curated by Cristina Grajales of the Cristina Grajales Gallery in New York City. França is represented by R 20th Century, a gallery in New York City, dedicated to showcasing innovative designers and their creations.
