The Subaru WRX STI Wins the 2013 Rally America National Championship

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Oct. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The Subaru Rally Team did it again. For the third straight year, the team — comprised of David Higgins and Craig Drew — has won the Rally America National Championship. The team at Subaru of Hilton Head, a premier dealership serving coastal Georgia and the Lowcountry, couldn’t be happier that Subaru has retained the title at the recent Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR).

The LSPR was the final round of the 2013 Rally America Championship, and David Higgins entered leading the field in points. His chief rival, Ken Block — who drove a Ford Fiesta ST — had offered stiff competition all season, and it was no different on the final day of the final event. Higgins prevailed by surging ahead of Block midway through the rally.

Later, Block rolled his vehicle and had to drop out of the race, while the Subaru team, driving a 2013 Impreza WRX STI, went on to take the championship. Higgins claimed his third straight Rally America Driver’s Title.

Road conditions were tricky during the two-day LSPR, with slick conditions giving way to drier surfaces on the final day. Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system may have been just the edge that Higgins needed to come out victorious, as the night stages of the rally were particularly wet and foggy, making the road very treacherous at high speeds.

The 2013 Subaru Impreza WRX STI is a high-performance sport-tuned car, available as a sedan or a hatchback. The stock edition is powered by a robust 2.5L boxer four-cylinder engine that delivers 305 hp while cranking out 290 lb-ft of torque; it comes paired with a six-speed manual transmission.
