LOS ANGELES - Oct. 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Janet Varney dresses up as the character she voices on the popular animated show The Legend of Korra for the latest Diani & Devine Meet The Apocalypse Kickstarter video. In the promo she wears a wig and costume to make her resemble “Avatar Korra” and seems to have a blurred sense of the line between what is real and what is not.

“It's possible the only thing I love more than working with Gabe Diani and Etta Devine is humiliating myself on film for all to see,” Varney said, “So it felt like a no-brainer to throw on a Korra costume and act like an idiot in support of the Kickstarter campaign.” Varney is set to appear in the apocalypse comedy as a well-stocked, suburbanite but only if the film makes its goal of $100,000 on Kickstarter. You can find the campaign at DDMTA.com.

“Janet’s one of the funniest people we know,” Devine said, “And we’re delighted she and Nickelodeon were game to have her ride her dog like it was Korra’s polar bear dog, Naga.”

Varney put the call out on twitter for any Korra fans who might have a cosplay costume she could borrow and Christina Mickel offered to make one for her and ship it across the country for the video.

Varney is among a number of genre actors who are lending their talents to the film and Kickstarter campaign. Golden Globe and Tony award-winning Barry Bostwick (The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Spin City), Harry Groener (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and Armin Shimerman (Star Trek: Deep Space 9, Buffy, Bioshock) are all set to appear in the film and have shot similar humorous appeals.

Varney is also offering a number of Kickstarter rewards including signed headshots, scripts and Skype conversations.

“Diani & Devine Meet The Apocalypse” is the story of a struggling comedy duo (Diani & Devine playing versions of themselves) who discover that surviving the apocalypse is almost as difficult as surviving Hollywood.

Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine are award-winning actors, writers, and comedians who are often compared with classic comedy teams like Nichols and May and Burns and Allen. They have performed at comedy festivals all over the country, raised over $30,000 on Kickstarter to replace the “N-word” with “Robot” in Mark Twain’s “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” and garnered over 1.3 million hits on their web series Mary Olson. Gabe wrote, produced, and starred in the horror comedy feature film THE SELLING which played at over 30 film festivals, was in the Top 10 of About.com’s Best Horror Movies of 2012, and received rave reviews from The Huffington Post, Ain’t It Cool News, and FilmThreat. Co-produced by and co-starring Etta, the film is available on DVD/VOD and through Fearnet On Demand. You can see their sizzle reel here.
