IRVINE, Calif. - Oct. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- As excitement builds for the 19th Annual SAGE Awards, the winners have just been announced by the 55+ Housing Council, a special interest council of the Building Industry Association of Southern California. Honoring individuals, projects and programs that have made an outstanding contribution to enhancing the quality of life for Southern California residents age 55+, this year’s SAGE Awards recipients are led by Person of the Year Paul Johnson, Senior Vice President/Community Development, and the Team for Rancho Mission Viejo (http://ranchomissionviejo.com/). While focused on the final development of the 4,000-acre Ladera Ranch community, Johnson is also carefully planning the notable community of Rancho Mission Viejo, specifically the urban design, development, marketing, builder land sales and administration of Villages One and Two.

UCI Mind (http://www.alz.uci.edu/), proud recipients of Program of the Year, has grown into an internationally acclaimed site for excellence in Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. UCI Mind is especially known for its research accomplishments, including clinical research and trials dedicated to investigating the causes of Alzheimer’s disease, improving quality of life and promoting successful aging. One of 29 Alzheimer’s disease centers supported by the National Institute for Aging, UCI Mind is also one of just 10 California Alzheimer’s Disease Clinical Centers funded by the California Department of Public Health.

The third award recipient, Long Beach Senior Arts Colony, offers an innovative art-focused setting that encourages dialogue and celebrates a “what if” and “why not” attitude. A visual arts studio, eco-garden, computer and business center and much more combine to ensure residents have the opportunity for a quality and active lifestyle.

The fourth SAGE Award winner for Project of the Year is Del Rey Square in Los Angeles. Affordable housing developer Thomas Safran & Associates partnered with the city of Los Angeles to build affordable, luxury housing for low-income and homeless seniors in Del Rey.
