NEW YORK - Oct. 23, 2013 - PRLog -- At Dancing Classrooms, Yvonne Marceau, director of development and Rodney Lopez, national program director, work together to cultivate essential life skills in children through the practice of social dance.  On Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. EST, Yvonne and Rodney will both be guests on Spotlite Radio, where they will inform their listeners about the benefits of their company and its place in educating the whole child.

Dancing Classrooms consists of three programs: its in-school residencies (Core Program), its continuing education weekend program (DC Academy) and its performing group (the Youth Dance Company). Each program works to help students connect with each other through team work, builds self-esteem and enhances cooperation and respect.  Working with classroom teachers in over 200 New York schools reaching 20,000 children annually, Dancing Classrooms curriculum works in partnership with school teachers to support academic goals through curriculum connection.

Dancing Classrooms believes all children need positive social skills in life to succeed. Through the joy of learning Merengue, Foxtrot, Rumba, Tango, Swing and Waltz, children experience positive social interaction. They come to understand the importance of respectful body language. They exercise. The non-academically inclined children find they can shine at something and this leads to newly discovered self-esteem.

The media has recognized the work of Dancing Classrooms in three films: the 2005 documentary “Mad Hot Ballroom,” “Take the Lead” starring Antonio Banderas playing DC founder Pierre Dulaine, and the soon to be released “Dancing in Jaffa”.

In addition to NYC, DC has 27 sites across the country and 3 internationally. Rodney Lopez insures that the program is delivered at the highest quality throughout the network, supporting the artists in the field and making sure they are staying on top of the program development.

Together, Yvonne and Rodney are interested in making Dancing Classrooms more visible by reaching out to school leaders and people who might be interested in bringing this program to their communities. Again, please listen to Spotlite Radio on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11 a.m. EST for an interview with Yvonne and Rodney.  For more information about Dancing Classrooms or to find out how to donate, please visit the website at:www.dancingclassrooms.org .
