Westside Youth Find Hope In Scouting And American Sunrise

Boy Scouts of America and Cisneros’ Communities Venture, American Sunrise Learning Center, Committed to Unified Focus on Youth

SAN ANTONIO - Oct. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- The Boy Scouts of America, Alamo Area Council and American Sunrise Learning Center (ASLC) introduce a renewed commitment to youth and Scouting on the Westside of San Antonio.  Media is invited to see Scouts from Pack 210, in action on Wednesday, October 23rd from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at American Sunrise Learning Center located at 2007 W. Commerce, San Antonio, TX 78207.

American Sunrise is the charter partner of the Alamo Area Council that began Cub Scout Pack 210 to serve more youth.  ASLC is a nonprofit community builder organization established in 2001 by former HUD Secretary and former Mayor of San Antonio Henry G. Cisneros and his wife, the Honorable Mary Alice Cisneros, formerly a member of the San Antonio City Council.

“In the past, we did not have Boy Scouts in this part of town,” says Henry Cisneros.  “Six years ago, we started Park 210 right here in American Sunrise,” continues Cisneros.  “This year, the young men in Pack 210 are wearing the official Boy Scout uniform shirts for the first time thanks to support that American Sunrise received from local business women.”

“The strength of the Boy Scouts of America for so many years is its unique delivery of the Scouting program through partnerships with great charter organizations like America Sunrise, and community leaders like Henry and Mary Cisneros,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive, Alamo Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.  “Cub Scout Pack 210 is not our Cub Scout pack…it belongs to our charter partner, American Sunrise,  and American Sunrise belongs to the community; therefore, it’s the community’s Cub Scout Pack,” explains Michael, “…we work in partnership…we work side by side to support our communities’ success with our youth.”

The Cub Scout Pack 210, serving boys in first through fifth grade, was created as a fun way to build confidence in the new Scouts and help motivate them towards achievement.  To learn more about how you can support Scouting and join the adventure, visit www.AlamoAreaBSA.org or contact the Alamo Area Council’s Director of Field Service, Ernie Gonzalez, at 210-341-8611 Ext. 115 or by email Ernie.Gonzalez@Scouting.org.  To learn more about American Sunrise, and Pack 210, contact Executive Director, Yolanda “Lolly” Byington at 210-444-1658 or by email Lolly.Bying@gmail.com  or at www.AmericanSunrise-SA.org.  ASLC is also holding the 11th Annual American Sunrise Gala “Celebrity Song Slam” at 6 p.m., Saturday, October 26th, at the Hyatt Regency.
