MYOB celebrates small business online innovation with Tech23 sponsorship

SYDNEY - Oct. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Australia’s largest accounting software provider, MYOB (http://myob.com.au/) is supporting start-up innovation with a new sponsorship of Tech23.2013. Now in its fifth year, Tech23 (http://www.tech23.com.au/) provides 23 inventive technology start-ups with a platform to showcase their business to an audience of potential investors, partners and clients.

At this year’s 29 October event in Sydney, MYOB is sponsoring the Online Innovation for Small Business Award.

MYOB General Manager, Business Division, James Scollay says the forum is a great opportunity for dynamic start-ups to reach some of the industry’s most influential players.

“Tech23 is a fantastic chance for innovative Australian businesses to demonstrate the potential of their business model and share their vision in one of the most supportive environments available. It’s also a great way for these up and coming innovators to hear from some of the best in the business, network with peers and share ideas,” he says.

This year’s 23 presenters have been selected from more than 150 businesses. Each will be judged by a panel throughout the day, and awarded prizes across a range of categories, from ‘greatest potential’ to ‘disruption’. The MYOB Online Innovation for Small Business Award winner will receive a two-year MYOB Premium Developer Partnership and a marketing campaign of up to $5,000 in value to the company’s 1.2 million client businesses.

“The internet provides many transformative opportunities for small businesses, making them more productive, giving them the ability to reach more customers and allowing them to be more competitive,” says Mr Scollay.

“This award recognises the growth not just of the technology community, but also the wider SME sector, which is increasingly seeing significant performance benefits from online innovation.”

MYOB continues to invest significantly in product and people. It has spent $100m+ on research and development in the last 3.5 years, with 250 of its 1,000+ employees focused on software development. The company has gone from strength to strength by delivering superior cloud solutions and supporting businesses in moving to the cloud at their own pace.

Mr Scollay adds, “We’re very focused on delivering the best online tools to support our clients and partners. Our research (http://myob.com.au/myob/backing-aussie-business/myob-busi...) reveals just what a difference technology like the cloud can make. We recently found SMEs using cloud computing for business were at least 100% more likely to see an increase in annual revenue.

“For MYOB, supporting initiatives like Tech23.2013, and giving growing technology businesses the opportunity to reach one of the largest networks of Australasian SMEs, is an investment in the capability of the whole business community. We’re looking forward to celebrating this year’s innovators.”

The MYOB Online Innovation for Small Business Award will be presented at Tech23.2013 by MYOB Chief Technology Officer, Simon Raik-Allen (http://myob.com.au/myob/myob-group/executive-management-1...). Mr Raik-Allen is responsible for driving MYOB’s digital vision, helping SMEs make the most of technology. He has spent the majority of his career in Silicon Valley, working with a broad variety of companies, including Sony, eBay, AOL and Telstra.
