MEDIA ADVISORY: Eugene O'Neill Award to John Patrick Shanley, Mon. Oct. 21 in NYC

NEW YORK - Oct. 18, 2013 - PRLog -- Actor Michael O'Keefe, Pulitzer Prize winning author William Kennedy, best-selling writers Malachy McCourt, Peter Quinn, and TJ English will also attend the annual Irish American Writers and Artists (IAW&A) event. The previous O'Neill Award honorees are  novelist William Kennedy, actor Brian Dennehy, Ciaran O'Reilly and Charlotte Moore--the founders of the Irish Repertory Theatre and folk music icon Judy Collins.

WHO:

A rare winner of the artistic "trifecta" of the Oscar, Tony and Pulitzer Prize, writer John Patrick Shanley has written over 20 plays and ten films. The Bronx-born writer is probably best known for the film Moonstruck starring Cher, Nicolas Cage, Olympia Dukakis, Danny Aiello; and Doubt, both the play and the film version which starred Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams and Viola Davis. His latest play, Outside Mullingar, starring Brían F. O'Byrne and Debra Messing and directed by Doug Hughes, begins previews at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on January 3, 2014.

Other expected notables include writer/musician Larry Kirwan, novelist Mary Pat Kelly, the evening's emcee Sarah Fearon and Celtic singer Ashley Davis, who will close the program by singing Shanley's favorite Irish song.
