Comments Lucia Cockcroft, Director of Satvada Retreats, who has been practising and teaching yoga for 15 years: “New Year’s Eve can be an awkward time of year for people who don’t like to feel pressurised into partying.
“We have created this break to enable those who would still like to get away for New Year, to indulge in some gentle yoga exercise with like-minded people, and still raise a glass or two to celebrate the arrival of the New Year without going over the top.”
Accommodation for the holiday is in a traditional, six-bedroomed riad, located in the heart of the Marrakech Medina, just a short walk from the central Jemma el Fna square, which bursts into life at dusk every evening when the musicians, snake charmers, acrobats and food vendors arrive to ply their trade.
The riad has been thoughtfully restored to an exceptionally high standard and with exquisite attention to detail, and with high regard for the environment.
The Riad's communal areas include a library (with open fire), beautiful courtyard (where the yoga will take place) with plunge pool and a spacious roof terrace, complete with chairs and white sun loungers for soaking up the sunshine.
The riad also has a massage room and hammam with bookable treatments.
The holiday costs from £899 per person (two sharing a room) which includes five- nights' accommodation, two daily 90-minute yoga classes, daily brunch, four evening vegetarian meals (including special four-course New Year’s Eve dinner), one hour’s hammam treatment, and a half-day guided tour of the Medina.
Flights are not included but at time of writing cost around £250 return with Easyjet/Ryanair.
Single travellers are welcome to share a room with a member of the same sex to avoid supplements. Room upgrades, single room occupancy and additional nights are also available at a supplement.
