LOS ANGELES - Oct. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- One thread running through news coverage in the past few weeks has been the start of open enrollment in the Affordable Care Act’s insurance marketplace. Despite ongoing efforts to explain the new law, analyze its implications and offer strategies for maneuvering it, many still know little about the ACA. News reports make it clear uninsured young adults don’t understand their obligations. Polls show many of those surveyed like all of the ACA’s provisions. Some interviewed this past week didn’t realize Obamacare and the ACA are the same thing.

In light of this, Dr. Maulana Karenga, Executive Director of African American Cultural Center (US)is hosting a Town Hall on Sunday, October 20, 2013, from 3:00-5:00pm at the African American Cultural Center (Us), 3018 W. 48th Street in Los Angeles. The title of the forum is, "The African American Community & The Affordable Care Act: Clear Answers to Critical Questions". Other invited panelists include Dr. Chris L. Hickey, Sr., Executive Director Each One-Teach One: Alliance for Academic Access, Achievement and Success; Ms. Aminisha Tambuzi, Healthcare Administration, Member, The Organization Us; and Ms. Constance Kizzie-Gillett, founder Lillie's Care Circle. There will be a question and answer session after the panelists speak.

This is a FREE community event. For more information, contact Ms. Chimbuko Tembo, Associate Director, African American Cultural Center (Us)(323) 299-6124 or ctembo@sankorepress.com.

African American Cultural Center(Us)

From the beginning, the essential task of the African American Cultural Center has been and remains to provide a philosophy, a set of principles and a program which inspires a personal and social practice that not only satisfies human need but transforms people in the process, making them self-conscious agents of their own life and liberation. Such a transformative practice will, of necessity, also lead to the building of moral community and to the constant becoming of the best of what it means to be both African and human in the fullest sense.
