Video Conferencing – Productivity gain, not travel less

It has been a hard job evangelising the deployment and use of Video Conferencing technology in corporate businesses. For many years the difficulty in setting up, the lack of availability of abundant, high quality & reliable bandwidth, the high cost of the equipment and specialist nature of pulling it all together has taken precedence over the benefits gained. Only those who had lots to gain were able to spend the money.

To compensate, the VC industry seduced us into buying it……with threats.

Compelling reasons, maybe, but nevertheless not motivational ones to get my purchase order book and start buying. So, what is today’s VC buzzword?

Well, let’s be honest – all companies want the same things……higher productivity, lower costs, greater profits, lower staff attrition rates and highly satisfied customers and shareholders. Video Conferencing WILL contribute to this set of desires.

Just like having a web site, email access, phones, mobiles and computers are an absolute necessity today – but were once a luxury – Video Conferencing sits right here too. If you can make quicker decisions, you are ahead of your competitors, if you can make them cheaper, you are ahead of your competitors and if you can do it with a happy and motivated workforce, you are ahead of your competitors and will, most likely, have a very small HR department.
