How to Start a Bookkeeping Business at Home (10 Tips) - New Blog Post Announced!

Oct. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Here’s a list to help you start your bookkeeping business from home:

1) Offer a free 30-minute consultation to potential clients (if you can offer some value to the potential client in 30 minutes you’ll have a great chance of converting them to a paying client)
2) Offer a total business advisor package including things like virtual bookkeeping, writing business plans, online payroll, and any other support services you’re familiar with
3) You should probably keep your current full-time job until you have some clients for your home bookkeeping business
4) Join local and/or online communities that bring business people together and/or a niche market you’re interested in
5) Create a business name, file your DBA, and get the appropriate business license for your state

6) Get a nice logo and website designed
7) Get certified as a bookkeeper, cloud accountant, or any other relevant certifications and be sure to post those certifications on your website
8) Get familiar with the different online accounting packages so you can advise your clients at the expert level (I have accounting clients that use Kashoo, Zoho, QB Online, Xero and others)
9) Network with other local and/or online accounting and legal professionals as I have found those to be good referrers (outside of current clients – which by far are the best referrers)
10) Set up an efficient work space, whether in a virtual office (like Regus), regular office or your home office
