KINGSWINFORD, U.K. - Oct. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Employees at Kingswinford company Alcomet, supplier of electrical earthing materials and components specifically for electricity substations, are currently celebrating their success on being shortlisted in the region’s top business awards.

Alcomet has been listed in the SME (small to medium enterprise) category of the Birmingham Post Business Awards 2013. The awards highlight the emerging strengths of firms across many sectors as the region fights its way back from economic gloom.

As a voice for the region the news paper’s business pages have been reporting about the improvements taking place recently in the local economy. The judging panel, chaired by Post editor Stacey Barnfield maintain that this has been confirmed by the quality of this year’s entries.

Alcomet will be competing against three other strong regional contenders. Each shortlisted candidate across a range of categories including Legal, Property and Finance will also be automatically entered into the Company of the year award.

The prestigious Company of the Year award will be announced on the evening of the event which takes place on 17 October at Edgbaston Stadium.

Alcomet’s managing director Gary James said: ”Naturally we’re thrilled to be among, what the judges consider to be, the top four SMEs in our region which in itself is quite an achievement. The other shortlisted candidates like ourselves have had to work very hard in, what is still, a difficult climate, so in my opinion we’re all winners. It would be nice however to come back with a trophy.

“I feel that awards are such good motivators and really success is something that can only be accomplished by having a good team around you. We are lucky at Alcomet that everyone gives a 101 percent which has paid dividends.”

Gary believes that the strength of Alcomet’s award entry was due to the success the company has experienced with two key products, the Guardian Security Product range and the Triton Portable Earthing and Testing Device. Both have proven to save the power generation sector money and improve safety standards.

The award-winning Guardian has already delivered significant cost savings to electricity utilities as a proven metal theft deterrent by protecting precious copper and aluminium at sub-station sites. Triton, Alcomet’s more recent development has the potential to save the industry valuable ‘customer minutes lost’ i.e. the staggering costs incurred through unscheduled power interruptions.

Both solutions have been applauded by engineering professionals as helping to improve health and safety standards within the power generation industry and other sectors including water utilities and the railways.
