National Food Drive Islamic Food Pantry Baitul Salaam Network, Inc.

STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - Oct. 13, 2013 - PRLog -- We must support back up plans to help people eat. Today in 17 states the SNAP program access cards did not work for several hours. This left hundreds of thousands of people without food for many hours. This could happen again however it could a day or two. It could be permanent if some of our leaders in congress get their way and slash away at so-called entitlement programs to save the government money to reduce the deficit.

"Let's have a back up plan in our communities, says a volunteer. Let's support each other." The Islamic Food Pantry is hosting a nation wide food drive for one month. This pantry serves all people no discrimination on any level. Our clientelle demographics at this time is 20 percent Muslim and 80 percent non-Muslim. Many people come to us are women with children, some elderly, students and some people looking for work. Many live in the Stone Mountain, Clarkston and Lithonia communities in metro Atlanta. Some come as far as north Fulton County to receive food from us due to our pantry being open on their off day from work or school.

We are asking people when they shop weekly, bi-weekly or monthly to purchase 1-3 extra items and donate them to this pantry project. This way we are assisting our neighbors, co-workers and relatives.

Items needed (no pork or pork by products). Rice, beans, pasta, canned milk, powder milk, soup, chicken, tuna, salmon, kosher (meat process according to Jewish law), halal meat (meat process according to Islamic law) vegetables and fruit. Hot and cold breakfast cereal, sauces, spices, any non-perishable food you serve your family bring to our food pantry.

The Islamic Food Pantry in metro Atlanta is open to receive donations from 12 noon to 2 pm on Thursdays only at our office 1100 S. Indian Creek Drive, Stone Mountain,GA. Our alternate drop off location is Maidah (a local business) 2720 Sylvan Rd. SW, East Point, GA 30344 Tuesdays-Saturday 4 pm-8 pm. Ask for Abdul H. Abdullah.

For all who want to support and live outside of the metro Atlanta area please send gift cards from Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Aldi's with $10 or more on them or send money. When sending a monetary donation send a note stating it is for the Islamic Food Pantry.
