Brooklyn Born Playwright Returns Home With Her Hot New Jazz Influenced Musical, “3 Divas 3!”

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Oct. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- 7:30pm Friday, November 8, 2013 under the direction of renowned actor and director, Zuhairah McGill, Karen L. Smith returns home to Brooklyn to showcase her hot new jazz influenced musical, “3 Divas 3” on stage at Stuyvesant Heights Christian Church located 69 MacDonough Street (near Tompkins Avenue), Brooklyn NY 11216. Karen L. Smith takes you on an intoxicating journey from the 1950s to present day in a slightly mystical world where the legendary jazz “Diva-sation”, Evelyn Simpson, at the peak of her career disappears!

Can the present and future divas work the magic to find Evelyn? If they do, can they resuscitate the great “Diva-sation” to sing again? Or will it be the other way around… Have the forces of the past casted their own spell into the present and on the future?

Music is by renowned jazz artists Alfie Pollit and James Solomon. James Solomon is a life -long Philadelphian. In the early sixties he collaborated with singer and songwriter Eddie Holman to pen top hundred songs: “This Can’t Be True,” “Don’t Stop Now,”,and “Stay Mine for Heaven’s Sake,” as well many other Harthon Productions. Alfred Pollitt, a native of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania is known to many in the music world as "Alfie." Since his first piece of musical composition in 1958 entitled "15th Street", Alfie has written well over one hundred songs.

Throughout Alfie's musical career he has performed with a broad spectrum of prominent Jazz and R&B performers, including: Donald Byrd, Archie Shepp, Art Blakey, Norman Connors, Sister Sledge, Billy Paul, Stephanie Mills, George Howard, Teddy Pendergrass, and the Four Tops, along with Alfie's own bands and ensembles. Alfie earned two platinum recording credits from working with the legendary Teddy Pendergrass. Alfie has also  composed and co-written musical works, including: theme/jingles for The Mataah Network's, "The Black Music Association" and "The Africamericas Festival." He has also collaborated as writer musical works "Our Family Reunion" and "Malcolm X.”

Playwright Karen L. Smith is happy to return to her hometown of Brooklyn USA to present this 10 year project in collaboration with her brother Michael C. Smith, James Solomon, and Alfie Pollit. "This is a full circle experience because it was right here at Stuyvesant Heights Christian Church that I present my very first full production.I go to the rock."

Director Zuhairah McGill is Founder and Producing Artistic Director of First World Theatre Ensemble. Besides, directing over 20 plays on and off Broadway, Zuhairah has appeared in numerous off-Broadway plays and national tours. Her latest directorial projects include 2013  DC Black Theatre Festival featured productions of Ntzoke Shange’s “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf,” Charron Monaye’s “Living Your Life,” and Glenn Alan’s “Don’t Sing No Blues For Me.”

Michael C. Smith is happy to be apart of making this production come to life and to premiere it here in Brooklyn. Michael shares, “Family is important,” about this brother and sister collaboration. 3 divas 3 Publishing was established in 2012 by  Karen, James, and Alfie to secure and protect their creative licensing.
