MANA de San Diego is proud to have one of the most successful one-on-one mentorship programs, the Hermanitas Youth Leadership Mentor Program, for young Latinas to pursue a higher education. Two of this year’s Hermanitas will be at the Brindis Gala to talk about how this program has positively impacted their lives and where they see themselves in the future - what their goals are now that they have been exposed to so many career opportunities and successful, professional role models. (B-roll provided).

Additionally, some of our MANA members were once Hermanitas and are now giving back to the organization in their own way. Venus Molina, who is now a board member for our organization, is a perfect example of a successful Latina who can talk about how the program has influenced her career. She has worked as Chief Policy Advisor for the city of San Diego and is now the Director of Civic Engagement at the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation.

With the recent news of “ObamaCare” and the importance of having healthcare coverage, MANA de San Diego’s annual Family Health Fair couldn’t be of more importance. The Health Fair is aimed at educating low-income women and their families on the importance of their health and receiving health exams at no cost. The event attracts hundreds of local residents.

About MANA: Originally founded in 1974, the Mexican-American National Association (MANA) is a non-profit organization with a goal to eliminate social and economic challenges facing Latinas.  Founders were comprised of women dedicated to the educational, economic, and community betterment of their hermanas (sisters).

MANA de San Diego was founded in 1986 to empower local Latinas through education, leadership development, community action and advocacy.  Some of MANA's flagship programs include the Hermanitas® Youth Leadership Mentor Program, the MANA Scholarship Program and MANA Family Health Fair , Latina Success – Mujeres De Exito Conference.
