NEW YORK - Oct. 12, 2013 - PRLog -- -A collection of vintage ephemera related to the life and career of the famed 20s icon, Josephine Baker, will be auctioned on October 24 via the internet by  Philliip Weiss Auctions. [ see below ]

     Consisting of over 16 items ( to be sold as one lot ), the sale features an acrylic on canvas painting of Ms. Baker swathed in feathers. Based on a 1927  picture  from the noted Jazz Age photographers Studio Walery, it captures an image from Baker’s famed ostrich feather dance as performed at the Folies Bergeres.

       Among other items up for sale are period endorsement ads, programs in the Art Deco style, sheet music, a bookstore promotional poster, a photo from her funeral featuring all 12 of her adopted children plus other period items.

       Born in the U.S., Baker’s triumphant Paris appearances launched a career that lasted several decades and established her as the pre-eminent black performer of her time. Her personal life was devoted to seeking equality for blacks and women and included an heroic turn as a daring member ofvFrance's WWII anti  Nazi Resistance.
