Oct. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- In his speech in Belfast today, British Prime Minister David Cameron proudly recalled seeing a HeartSine automated external defibrillator at the White House― installed to protect the President and his staff in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.

Said Cameron:  "When I became Prime Minister I went to visit President Obama in Washington.  Turning up in a motorcade, going past the marine guard and the secret service officers with their shades and earpieces I finally reached the inner sanctum of the White House.  I really thought I’d made it.  And then I realised that a business from Northern Ireland had already got there first.  Yes a company called HeartSine – who made the portable defibrillators!"

HeartSine is pleased that the White House selected its samaritan PAD 300P (http://www.heartsine.com/en/products/), which is designed for use in public areas by providing a sophisticated defibrillator inside a lightweight and easy-to-operate system. The 300P uses HeartSine’s practical Pad-Pak™, which incorporates the battery and electrodes in a single-use cartridge – meaning only one expiration date to monitor and only one item to replace after use. And the popular AED is suitable for use on adults and children.

Cameron gave the speech at the Northern Ireland Investment Conference, a major business conference that promotes the business strength of Northern Ireland.

About SCA

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is a condition in which the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops beating, causing blood to stop flowing to the brain and other vital organs. SCA usually causes death if it's not treated within minutes.CPR alone will not restart the heart, so the American Heart Association recommends CPR combined with early defibrillation (within three to five minutes) for the best outcome.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), SCA claims more than 300,000 lives annually in the U.S. alone. It occurs abruptly and without warning, with 84 percent of SCA events occurring outside of the healthcare setting.
