Manchester employees go homeless to raise money in aid of Action for Children

MANCHESTER, U.K. - Oct. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- On Friday night, three local employees from FDM Group, the UK’s leading IT graduate employer braved Manchester’s cold and rainy weather and slept outside to raise vital funds for Action for Children in aid of youth homelessness.

Madeleine Field, Molly Smith and Roxanne Cuddy took part in Byte Night, an event that is supported by the IT and Technology sector to help tackle the root causes of youth homelessness, keeping vulnerable young people off the streets and enabling them to build better lives.

The three IT employees based in Manchester City Centre set up camp for the night with nothing but a sleeping bag, a ground sheet and plenty of rain, along with around one hundred other sleepers in the grounds of Brother’s campus in Audenshaw, Greater Manchester.

Byte Night began 16 years ago with 30 individuals raising £35,000 and it has now grown to a UK wide event. The 2013 sleeper amount totalled up to 1,448 people who have together raised circa £850,000 so far, and with donations still coming in, they are not far off the set target of £1 million.

Sleepers began the night inside where they were given a warming meal whilst listening to speeches from Byte Night organisers, followed by a live auction and a raffle prize draw helping to raise even more money for the worthwhile cause. At 10 o’clock the sponsored sleepers were sent outside to a nearby field to face the elements and set up camp under the stars until the following morning.

Madeleine Field, Recruitment Relationship Manager at FDM Group, said: - “when I heard about Byte Night, I wanted to get involved straight away. I think it is such a worthwhile cause, especially when I work in Manchester where there are a staggering number of homeless people on the streets. I have been fortunate enough to not understand what it is like to sleep rough, so I wanted to not only to help raise money for Action for Children, but to also understand the harsh conditions homeless youths face on an everyday basis.”.

FDM employees have raised a total of circa £2000 so far, FDM Group has generously donated £1000 in sponsorship. If you would like to contribute to this worthy cause, please go to:
