CHESTERFIELD, U.K. - Oct. 11, 2013 - PRLog -- Local Marketing and Social Media firm, Brighter Directions who are based in Clay Cross, Chesterfield recently completed their annual charity challenge (this year was voted by clients and friends). They took part in a gruelling 16 mile hike across the different terrains of Derwent and Ladybower dams for the ‘The National Association Crohns and Colitis’ or NACC for short.

The team raised over £1,200 for the national charity, contributing significantly to the cause, which is very much at the heart of the company. Not one but three members of staff suffer with the deliberating diseases, all of which have been hospitalised on several occasions to try and control the symptoms.

Brighter Directions, who work with both local SMEs and National Corporations, are passionate about raising awareness of these diseases, which affects over 250,000 people in the UK, many of which are young children and teenagers and there are up to 18,000 new cases every year. Crohn's Disease ('Crohn's') and Ulcerative Colitis (UC) affect parts of the digestive system. This includes the intestines or 'bowels' which become sore and inflamed. Crohn's can affect any part of the digestive system from the mouth to the anus. UC affects the colon (large intestine) and rectum.

Each year, the team think of new ways to raise awareness and fundraising money for the NACC. MD Claire Curzon says of this year’s challenge “This year was difficult for us as a team, because two of the people with the conditions had recently been in (hospital) for surgery, which meant a normal stroll around the countryside was hard-work, let alone the Peak challenge battling different terrains. Yet it was worth it because we raised a wonderful £1,200 for the NACC which will really help fund new research for cures and raise more awareness of the disease locally”

“Although this year’s challenge is finished, we are still accepting donations via our Eventbrite page online, so please dig deep and donate what you can. Even a small amount can help and diagnosis of the diseases are becoming more known, the chances are you already know someone with the condition; http://www.justgiving.com/brighterdirections2013challenge
