Eat Street Players Fall Musical Premiers Friday, October 18th, 2013

By: Eat Street Players

MINNEAPOLIS - Oct. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Eat Street Players first presentation of the season is a musical entitled “A New Brain”.  The Music and Lyrics were written by William Finn and it is based on a book written by William Finn and James Lapine.

A New Brain is about making the most out of life in the face of tragedy.  When a neurotic, frustrated composer is confronted with a terminal illness, he must decide how to use what little time he may have left, and deal with the regrets of a life not fully lived.

The play is in fact composer William Finn’s semi-autobiographical account of his own battle for life when he was afflicted with a seemingly terminal illness. And while a written synopsis conveys heavy content matter, this is a laugh-out-loud, toe-tapping musical, teeming with both the “heart and music” for which the theme song calls. The central characters struggle come to terms with the threat of tragedy, and ultimately find salvation and a second chance in the healing power of art.

Featuring vocal arrangements by Jason Robert Brown and combined with the brilliant score and lyrics by the aforementioned Messrs, Finn and Lapine, this will satisfy all your theatrical cravings, musical, emotional, comedic and cathartic.  This is one not to miss!  (Please note-this show contains some adult language and themes.)

Eat Street Players was started as a revival of Theater 1900, the resident theater company in the Howard Conn Theater at Plymouth Congregational Church.  Theater 1900 was started by those who started Theater in the Round, and performed during the 70s and 80s.  It stopped producing around 1990.  In 2005, a new company was formed and has been performing since.  After a little work trying to find a name, it was determined to be Eat Street Players, as one founding member noted, “Because we're playing on Eat Street, which is Nicollet Avenue”

Tickets for the musical can be purchased online at www.eatstreetplayers.org  Prices are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors (65+) The Howard Conn Fine Arts Center is located at 1900 Nicollet Avenue South in Minneapolis.  The production is running October 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 and November 1, 2, 3.  Fridays and Saturdays the play begins at 7:30 and Sundays at 2 pm.
