Kaboo Check-In App Puts Focus on Instant Social Interaction, In-App and Real Life

The location-based, check in iPhone app creates instant social benefits by putting nearby friends in touch.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - Oct. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Newport Beach, Ca (August 2013) - The recent release of the Kaboo check-in app focuses on connecting with friends, anywhere in the world.  With instant notifications of local friend activity, Kaboo stands out from other location-based social networks, and takes a proactive approach to app activity and friend interaction, both in-app and in real life.  Following the idea that ‘It’s a small world’ Kaboo provides push notifications for when a friend checks-in within a one to 20 mile radius, depending on the user settings.  The unique function lets users know exactly which friends are nearby, no matter where one might be worldwide.

Kaboo was born from the realization that friends and family members had all been “passing each other by” in nearby stores, restaurants, and even in airports around the world.  Rishi Jhunjhnuwala, creator of Kaboo, said, “The idea really set in when I was traveling with my brother to Singapore.  While stopped in Tokyo we saw a friend from high school in the same airport lounge, who had apparently been on the same flight.  Then after we landed in Singapore, I checked-in at Changi Airport on Facebook, and a few hours later a friend from London responded that he was there at the same time.”  Such instances of run-ins with friends solidified the necessity for an app that would help alert individuals when friends or family were in the nearby vicinity.

“My ultimate goal for Kaboo is to really change the way people use the check-in feature. Instead of just having it as a status update in Facebook, I really hope people start using this app to connect with friends and family that might be right around the corner, that they didn't even know were there in the first place,” said Jhunjhnuwala.

In addition to its unique user notifications, Kaboo blends in-app social behavior with real-world social activity.  Text messages and emails can be sent from within the app to share the user’s current check-in location and encourage friends to join, regardless if they are Kaboo users or not.  The function helps Kaboo move beyond just social sharing a user check-in to allow for real benefits in finding nearby friends or inviting friends to join quickly and easily.

Built out profiles on Kaboo include status updates, photo albums and recent travels, or check-ins.  For privacy purposes, users do not have to share all check-in locations or photos, and can activate specific privacy settings to only share certain information with exclusive individuals.

Kaboo is available for free from the iTunes store. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/kaboo/id559481010?ls=1&am...
