The 21st Century Flying Hospital Now In Development

Global Flying Hospitals and Odulair, LLC join forces to create an expandable hospital for transport in Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft

CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Oct. 10, 2013 - PRLog -- Odulair, LLC, the world’s leading provider of advanced mobile health clinics and mobile medical vehicles today announced their partnership alliance with Global Flying Hospitals. The two have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a fleet of 21st century flying hospitals, which includes an expandable mobile hospital that can be transported within a C-130 Hercules cargo aircraft. Dr. Anita Chambers, CEO of Odulair, said, “We at Odulair are honored that Global Flying Hospitals’ has selected Odulair to custom engineer and manufacture their fleet of Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules based flying hospitals. We are also pleased to work on such an important humanitarian mission that parallels our own corporate social responsibility goals.”

As planned, the flying hospital will include such vital components as a sterile operating room, exam rooms, diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities; all in a versatile Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules cargo transport aircraft. Throughout aviation history, no aircraft, either developed or even under development, can match the flexibility of the C-130 Hercules. According to Lockheed Martin, today, the Hercules is used daily by 72 countries for multi-role, multi-mission airlift capabilities.

Global Flying Hospitals is proving to be truly visionary in selecting the C-130 Hercules for their next generation flying hospitals. The aircraft boast a history of over a half century of duty as a master in medevac and search and rescue missions. Although other organizations have built specialized flying hospitals within heavy jets as Lockheeds and MD11s, their usefulness is limited due to the long runway necessary to land the large aircraft. Conversely, this is where the C-130 Hercules reigns supreme. Global Flying Hospitals conducted extensive research prior to selecting the smaller aircraft for their humanitarian mission, which is aimed toward assisting developing countries in becoming fully self-sufficient and sustainable in providing healthcare for their citizens.

Neill Newton,Founder and Chairman of Global Flying Hospitals stated: “We’ve taken a long route in reaching this milestone.  We originally planned for the refurbishment of a Boeing 747 as the flying hospital, and looked at other big jets.  Finally, we realized that in today’s world of constant natural disasters and ongoing medical needs in small rural villages, along with huge population growths, we have to be nimble, efficient and very cost conscious.  This Hercules – Mobile Hospital business model now fits perfectly!”

Both Odulair and Global Flying Hospitals are key players in helping developing countries achieve the United National 2015 Millennium Goals. Odulair is pleased to join forces with Global Flying Hospitals whose initial focus is in the Asian region. Although Odulair has extensive experience in assisting countries with their Millennium Development Goals in sub-Saharan Africa, this alliance provides Odulair with the opportunity to expand their humanitarian mission efforts into Asia. Together, Odulair and Global Flying Hospitals provide training and resources to developing countries worldwide, fast becoming the premier solution of life-saving medical care services to developing countries, both on the ground, and now in the air.
