Tortola Sailing school are now offering MCA approved powerboat courses through IYT Worldwide training from its Tortola, BVI base.
The company is offering these courses due to demand from the local BVIslanders for a locally based professional training centre that can deliver high quality training and certification.
Tortola Sailing School will be offering these three day intensive theory and practical courses over two weekends to enable people who work during the week to take advantage of the training, full safety gear will be provided.
The certificate covers being a responsible captain in charge of a small power boat or RIB up to a maximum length of 80 ft/24 metres and its crew within 20 miles of a safe haven, BUT recommended for fair weather (as guidance wind of less than force 6 and less than 3 metre waves) and mainly daylight hours.
The course may be taken in either planning hulls or displacement hulls (some training in a planing hull will need to be undertaken); with either centre console or tiller steering; with inboard/outboard, stern drive or jet drive engines. The vessel will typically be a day boat in which it is intended NOT to accommodate the crew overnight.
