SEATTLE - Oct. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- (Shoreline, WA, October 9, 2013) Northwest Hand & Orthopedics is announcing an upgrade of their MRI services in Shoreline. The company recently purchased a new, state of the art open MRI scanner to offer patients a comfortable and less confining experience. It’s another step in its growing practice, which includes orthopedic surgery, occupational and physical therapy. This newly expanded service is being run under the name “Seattle MRI.”

The new high resolution scanner is the only one of its type available in the area, where only the body part being scanned is placed inside the unit. This virtually eliminates the claustrophobia associated with traditional MRI scans. “This particular type of MRI is typically used for orthopedic scans, like those of the extremities, neck and shoulder, however, our new S-Scan system can perform scans of the hip, lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine as well,” according to Doctor Edwin Vyhmeister, the Board Certified Surgeon and President of the company. “The new scans provide outstanding image quality.”

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a safe, mostly noninvasive and totally painless way to examine the soft tissues of the body for diagnostic purposes. The exam, which usually takes less than 45 minutes, uses radio frequencies and a magnetic field to create clinical diagnostic images. MRI technologists are on hand to perform the scans, and Board Certified, musculoskeletal fellowship trained radiologists interpret them with immediate interpretations available for urgent cases. Referring doctors will have a secure online portal for accessing the scans, which are also downloadable or available on a CD.

Most insurance plans are accepted and special prices are available for uninsured patients. Scans are performed Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with extended hours and weekends available. Seattle MRI welcomes referrals from area doctors and walk-in appointments with a prescription. Additional extremity MRI scanning is performed at the company’s Woodinville location.
