LONDON - Oct. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- The report, compiled by Cass Business School as part of its extensive international business research and sponsored by SWIFT, not only looked at the body of knowledge on Dubai as an IFC but also charts the steps needed to ensure that it develops towards this goal.

Steve Thomas, a Cass Business School Professor of Finance and also one of the authors of this report had this to say on the findings:

"Dubai is becoming increasingly important as a financial and trading entrepot for the Middle East and Whole of Africa (MEWA), with its remarkable recovery from the financial crisis testimony to its energy and creativity. The continuing strengthening of institutions and markets is key to securing ongoing progress at a turbulent time for both the region and the global economy."

The report looks in detail at the financial infrastructure of Dubai, which has already attracted a wide variety of financial service companies. However it also looks at how Dubai needs to develop in order to attract further business. For example, improving its financial infrastructure further alongside the maturity of its equity and debt markets.

The research was undertaken by Cass Consulting, Cass Business School’s detailed and extensive business research resource, and outlines additional steps that could help to attract further listings to their exchange and encourage more foreign investors and financial firms to participate in Dubai’s financial markets.

This September SWIFT’s annual conference, Sibos, discussed some of the themes mentioned in the report, which was especially relevant as the conference was held in the Dubai World Trade Centre - the first time the conference was held in the Middle East. On the 19th September there was even a dedicated Africa & Middle East Day, to highlight the growing importance of the region yet further.
